American Heart Month | PinMart
Did you know?
Every year more than 600,000 Americans die due to heart disease. What's even more shocking, is that 80% of these deaths could have been prevented by making necessary changes to one's lifestyle and by just simply having a greater understanding of the signs and symptoms of heart disease.
Show your heart some love with these 8 heart-healthy tips!
- Chose not to smoke, or quit smoking.
- Know your numbers. Keep an eye on your weight, blood pressure, and cholesterol.
- Get screened for diabetes. Untreated diabetes can lead to heart disease as well as many other complications.
- Exercise. Get that heart pumping!
- Establish healthy eating habits. Skip the chips! Add heart-smart foods to your diet such as salmon, berries, oats, and nuts. To satisfy your sweet tooth, dark chocolate (in moderation of course) is a heart-healthy treat!
- Easier said than done but try your best to stress less.
- Catch some z's. Getting a good night's rest will restore your body, will help decrease stress, and you will likely see an increase in overall happiness.
- Lastly, smile. A happy heart is a healthy heart!
